If you’ve got toenail fungus, or have had to deal with it in the past, you know that it can be extremely difficult to get rid of. Some people spend months and hundreds of dollars trying to get rid of toenail fungus, which is why many choose to go the over the counter route or at home remedy route instead, hoping to save themselves some money. But do at home treatments or over the counter toenail fungus treatment products work as well as physician ordered treatments?

At Home Remedies

There are dozens of different at home treatments that you can choose from, and while some sound as though they may work over time, others are simply time wasters. One treatment that many people are trying is the vinegar treatment. Before you do this treatment, however, you need to know which vinegar to use, as there are a number of different types of vinegars to purchase. Most who have tried the vinegar cure recommend using apple cider vinegar.

Doing the treatment is simply and you have two options. The first is to mix your feet in a mixture of half vinegar, half water for at least thirty minutes three to four times a day. This is supposed to help bring the nails back to their normal state. Others recommend that you put vinegar directly onto the nail that is infected twice a day, but in order to make sure that it is effective, you are required to bandage up the nail. There are a number of at home remedies such as this, including ones that require that you bandage your nail for weeks and months on end.

Over The Counter

Many claim that over the counter options work better than at home remedies. Fortunately there are dozens of different products to choose from on the market, unfortunately it’s hard to know which treatment products work and which ones don’t. The best way to figure out which product works, before you spend your money, is to look around online at the feedback from other customers. If a number of people say that the product works, you most likely will be purchasing something that is a good toenail fungus treatment.

Physician Remedies

There are a number of pharmaceutical options as well, and only a physician can give you a script so that you can purchase the treatment that you need. On the plus side, your physician will make sure that your toenail fungus doesn’t get so bad that it causes infection elsewhere in your body, but toe nail fungus treatment options from your physician may cost quite a bit more than either over the counter medications or at home remedies.

No matter which option you choose, it is best that you seek treatment for your condition as soon as possible, so that you don’t have to worry about the fungus causing even more harm to your body than it already has.

It is easy to feel like nail fungus treatment is an uphill battle at times. There are very few people on the planet that are able to say that their nail fungus problem rolled over and was beaten by them. It is hard to get rid of, which is why prevention of this condition is so extremely important.

Nevertheless, you have nail fungus and now you have to deal with it. You may even be wondering why you should bother with treatment in the first place. Who wants to have to try treatment after treatment after treatment all in the search of the nail fungus cure to end all of this pain and discomfort as well as embarrassment for you, just to be disappointed all over again?

You should, however, certainly bother with treatment, as the nail infection can lead to further problems. When it comes to them, the question is whether or not there is something that will actually work. There are some instances in which nail fungus just cannot be cured. These cases are rare and extreme, but they do happen. Fungus is everywhere and sometimes it can get under the nail. This is where nail fungus infections start, and when the fungus is able to thrive in a moist, warm environment all heck can break loose and your nails can start to change.

If you are having a difficult time finding a good nail fungus treatment, consider the basics. Keep your toenails and finger nails trimmed at all times. Make sure that your feet are always clean. Be sure to go through extra pains to pat your feet dry after bathing and try not to get your feet wet during rain, pool play, beach play or other such things.

You should also try several different things when it comes to treatment for this issue, because different things are known to work for different people. The cases that are the most difficult to treat are those with immune system problems already in place, or those who are over the age of 50. Those who consider themselves to be healthy and are under the age of 40 are the cases of nail fungus that are the easiest to treat. This is why you may see so many older people on the street with yellowing, crumbling fingernails or toenails. Their bodies are simply finding it much harder than ever to fight the condition.

Products are a dime a dozen. The one that works for you is still out there, so don’t waste too much time in finding it. It is not always easy to be perseverant in your search for the perfect cure. As a matter of fact it can be quite disheartening at times but the right treatment will come up for you. Consider seeing a doctor and having him or her prescribe an oral antifungal treatment if the over the counter creams and lotions aren’t working for you. A homeopathic doctor might also be of help in finding the perfect cure.

If you have children yourself you will understand that keeping their nails clean is not on top of the radar. In fact nail health is often neglected in children. That is when they are the most at risk for developing fingernail fungus. Children don’t have the proper skills to be able to wash their hands correctly, if they wash at all. All those germs and microbes gather under the nails especially if they don’t get cut. In these lovely little nails there are also parasitic cysts and eggs! Dirty nails transmit infection especially if there are parasites which can re-enter the body.

In children it is nasty, and this is where parents usually need to step in. Their fingernails should be kept trimmed and cleaned to prevent these issues. You can use soap and an oil of oregano solution. If you do this regularly the incidence of infections will drastically decrease. You have to make sure you educate your children on the correct way to wash their hands and to keep their nails short and clean. The fungus will thrive in children the same way it does in adults. It likes the moist, dark conditions. The problem is that children’s immune systems are not fully developed, and that can lead to further infection. You will know if your child has a finger nail fungus when their finger is swollen and red.

At times the finger may also ooze pus from the nail bed or cuticle. You may also want to check their lymph glands which can become swollen due to the infection. To treat children with finger nail fungus there are creams and ointments. Oral medications are the other alternative. Terbinafine, fluconazole, and itraconazole are common to treat these types of fungus in children. The oral medications need to be taken for at least 4 months. A new nail should grow and replace the old one. The only problem is that there could be complications with these medications like rashes, liver damage and heart problems.

They may just need an antibiotic cream or some iodine on the affected area. However, if there is pus, then an antibiotic will be needed. If it is indeed a finger nail fungus, your doctor will likely prescribe a cream to be used for 2-3 weeks. A warm compress may help in easing any pain.

Of course the children should be told to stay away from common surroundings like pools, showers and wash areas where there could be fungal spores and contaminants. It is hard to get children to cut their nails and practice the proper hygiene. However, as a parent, it is your job to make sure that their nails are cut and clean. It is far better to make them upset now than to deal with a serious complication later. No one wants to see their children in pain and suffering. So with some practice and some coaching, your children can keep their hands and fingers clean.

It’s easy for things to get lost in the shuffle when you’re doing your everyday things. After all, many of us rush back and forth to work, deal with children, or try to climb up the corporate ladder. We don’t have time to check every inch of our bodies to make sure that everything is okay, nor do we have the inclination. It makes sense, then, why we often find that something like fingernail fungus has taken over our nails, as it is something that can be ignored for some time until it causes a huge problem. Take your fingernails; how often do you look at your fingernails to see if something has changed on them or looks different? If you’re like most of us, probably not often. Then how can you tell if your fingernails need fingernail fungus treatment or not?

Changing Body

As we grow older, our bodies change. You may notice that your eyesight changes, or that you’re not as flexible as you used to be. Many people find that bones that broke when they were younger often start creaking as they get older, and that injuries take a great deal longer to heal. If you’re growing older, there are some things that you can expect to change on your nails too, and may not mean that you need treatment.

One thing you may notice are lines that occur on your nails. These lines are known as longitudinal lines and are actually a natural course of aging. Scientists believe that the lines occur do to aging because we are unable to absorb minerals and vitamins when we age as well as we did when we were younger. These lines do not require that you seek out nail fungus treatments.

Other nail changes that can occur in your fingernails, which are normal and do not require treatment, are white lines that can occur. These white lines, however, may mean that you have a problem with your kidney or with your liver and shouldn’t be ignored, as the longitudinal lines can be. If you see white lines on your fingernails, speak with your physician immediately.

You may also find that you have ridges on your fingernails. This can be caused either due to a poor fingernail cutting, or due to fingernail fungus, requiring a remedy. If you have ridges on your fingernails, you may want to speak with your physician about them, as you may have the condition.

There are a number of things that can make your nails look strange, and if you have any question as to if there is a nail problem or not, it is best to speak with your doctor, for while your condition may be natural and may not require treatment, it may also be something that does require treatment, or an indication of a more serious problem.

Toenail fungus was putting a damper on my social life for quite a while. Even worse, I recently developed fingernail fungus, too. My name is Dave, and when I noticed it on my fingernails, I decided that it was time to look for something that would actually kill this fungus, not just make my nails look better. With every other treatment I have used, the only results I really had were cosmetic. My toenails looked better for a while, but within a couple of months, the fungus was back in full swing.

When I began to research options on the Internet, I read a lot of information that sounded good. I narrowed down my search to three options to treat the nail fungus. I finally made my decision to use one called Fungisil because of three things that stood out to me: The natural ingredients, including essential oils; the testimonials from other people who have had so much success with it; and the money-back guarantee.

When I placed my order, I was very anxious for it to arrive so I could begin using it. As soon as it came, I opened it and read the directions. I was very happy that Fungisil is a topical treatment that works as both a toenail fungus treatment and a fingernail treatment. Having the ability to treat both of my problem areas with one product would save me money and time.

I used it faithfully as directed, and I have seen a lot of good results. At first, I noticed that the normal color was returning to my nails. Then, a few days later, I noticed that the itching had stopped completely. That was what had bothered me the most, even more than the way my nails looked. When that nagging itch left, I new I was on the right track.

After three weeks, the nail fungus was all gone as far as I could tell. I kept using Fungisil for a couple more weeks, just to make sure it was completely dead. I wanted the fungus killed, never to return. It has been three months since I stopped using it, and I have not had a recurrence. I am really happy that I found this treatment. Now I can get my social life back in full swing and not worry about my nails making a bad impression.

If you think you have toenail fungus, chances are that you do. There are some other ailments that tend to look like nail fungus, and when nails are yellow they can indicate a variety of conditions, but the fact remains that the other symptoms are quite ambiguous. Not only the yellow color in the nails, but the thickness of the nails is one indicator of the issue along with the fact that infected nails are often very thick and horny in texture. They are hard to clip and have a tendency to grow in an irregular pattern.

If you think that you have this fungus, it is important to seek treatment as soon as possible. The more advanced the infection gets, the worse it can be for those who are trying to treat it and the longer of a time it has to set in the longer it can take to cure completely. Nail fungus cannot just be eradicated; it has to grow off so as long as it will take to clip off a full nail and regrow a new one is as long as it can take to get rid of.

If you notice that you have thicker nails on your feet or toes, they are increasingly hard to clip, are yellow in color and seem to be crumbling when you try to clip them, chances are that you are right about the fact that you have toe nail fungus. From here, the next step is to make an appointment with your doctor to find out for sure whether or not that is what is going on with you.

Once you make an appointment with your doctor you are on your way to being able to find out how you can go about treating the issue. There are numerous ways to go about treatment and the method that is best for you depends on your body, your immune system, how extensive the infection is and how faithful you can be to it.

Some infections are so far gone that only antifungal medications taken orally stand the chance of being able to help cure it. The most popular medication for this purpose is Lamisil, and that is likely what your doctor will prescribe.

In addition to the oral antifungal medications it may also be a good idea to make use of some of the creams and ointments that can be purchased over the counter at the drug store. Talk to your pharmacist about their favorite choice for this type of treatment, and let them know whether or not you will be taking prescription medications in addition.

Toenail fungus is notoriously hard to treat, but not to notice. If you have just contracted it, it may be more difficult to find out whether or not that is what is wrong with you and that is when the doctor is the most important as that is the prime time for treatment.

Most of us have very busy days. We rush back and forth from work and home to social obligations. Those who have children often find themselves acting like a taxi, and those without children often spend hours off of the clock working to get ahead. It makes sense, then, that during these busy days we often forget to take a close look at certain parts of our body, such as our toes. Most people assume that all toenails look the same, but there are a number of conditions that can cause toenail problems, or the need for fungus treatment, just as there are a number of conditions that leave the toenail looking strange even though it is not in need of toe nail fungus treatment. How can you tell if your toes have need of treatment or not?

Lines

The older you get, the more things in your body will change. For instance, you may have never had need for eyeglasses when you are young, but as you get older you may find that your eyes have a hard time adjusting to read things, and your optometrist may prescribe eyeglasses to you, which is not uncommon. The same sort of things occur to your feet and hands when you get older. Suddenly lines appear that were never there before, and your hands may become wrinkled.

The toenails and fingernails change as well. When you get older, you may see what are known as longitudinal lines. These lines do not mean that you need a cure, and are a natural course of aging. Many scientists believe that the lines are caused due to a poor absorption of vitamins and minerals. People who are anemic occasionally have these lines as well. It is good to know, however, that if you see long lines on your nails, you do not need to look for treatments.

Occasionally white lines will occur on the nail bed as well. These white lines are something that you should not seek treatment methods for, but should instead see your physician for, as these white lines may mean that you have a liver or kidney problem, so it is best to not avoid the problem, and to not self-treat, but to seek a physician’s advice and treatment.

Ridges can occur on the nail as well. If the nail become irritated, and the nail looks strange and has bumps on it, it could be that you need to look into methods, or it could be that you can fix the problem by cutting the nail back a bit. If the problem is solved by cutting the nail back, you probably do not need a remedy.

Toenail fungus can be caused by a variety of different factors, and while a treatment will often cure the problem, it is a good idea to speak with your physician about your condition before getting treatment.

Nail fungus is no fun. From the physical symptoms that are downright embarrassing to the long term effects, it’s essential that you find the right nail fungus cures for your problem. Fortunately, that cure can be as close as the grocery store, and the best part is that no one in the store will know your purchases are to treat an embarrassing problem.

Oregano and olive oil make a great dipping sauce for an Italian bread, but they make a better cure for your fungal infection. Start by grinding fresh oregano with a pestle. Blend that with a teaspoon of olive oil. Apply it to the affected area every day, but don’t use the treatment for more than three weeks. Oregano has a history of antiseptic and antibacterial properties, so you’re likely to see some serious results right away with this treatment method.

Another option you can pick up the next time you head out to get milk and bread is apple cider vinegar. Combine warm water and the vinegar in a tub of water for a great treatment. You’ll want equal parts of both. Soak the affected nail for about twenty minutes once per day. When you’ve finished, you’ll want to dry the nail thoroughly using a paper towel. If you’re soaking your toenails in the mixture, you may want to use a hair dryer to help speed the process and ensure there is no remaining dampness to help the infection further spread.

Cayenne pepper is also a remedy you can pick up at your local grocery store. To apply this remedy, mix as much of it as necessary with a few drops of water to form a thick paste. Apply it to the affected nail, and let it sit for at least twenty minutes. If possible, wrap the nail in gauze or bandages to allow the remedy to sit for some time. Many homeopaths suggest that in just four weeks, your fungal infection will be gone thanks to this cure.

Coconut oil is an additional nail fungus treatment option. Often sold with the baking supplies or other oils in a grocery store, you simply massage a few tablespoons on the affected area a few times per day. You’ll want to make sure the brand you pick up is 100% pure. In most cases, you’ll see results within a few weeks.

One final option you may want to pick up the next time you go grocery shopping is cornmeal. Used to cure fungal problems in gardens for years, cornmeal is the ideal solution. Simply make a thick paste of cornmeal and water. Apply it to the affected area at least once per day, and let it sit for up to an hour. Wash it off, and repeat the next day. If you’re applying it to your toenail, be sure to stay barefoot while it remains caked on the nail. You’ll have strong, clear nails in about a month.

The right products really are as close as the grocery store if you know what to purchase. Trying these remedies first is the ideal solution, as they’re not costly and you can always use the leftover ingredients should they remedies themselves not work for you.

Do you have nail fungus? How do you know for sure? Most people have at least some idea of whether or not the ailment they are suffering from is due to nail fungus. It is fairly easy to tell whether or not your nails are infected with the nasty fungus that affects so many. Those who are infected with nail fungus shouldn’t have too difficult of a time being able to tell. It is only after nail fungus is detected that nail fungus treatment can be administered.

Nails that are infected with nail fungus are usually quite obvious. They are yellow in color, from a slight tint to a dark orange. They are usually very horny, thick nails that are difficult to trim. This tends to cause a lot of pain. Also, the nails are sensitive and delicate and tend to crumble when you are trying to trim them.

Does this sound like your problem? If so, it is time that you make an appointment with your doctor. Only your doctor can make the final diagnosis and let you know for sure whether or not that is something that you suffer from. They can do this by looking at the nail itself or taking a clipping and having it sent to a lab. If there is a fungus infecting the nail it will show itself under a microscope. From there, a cure can be implemented.

After the diagnosis your doctor can help you to figure out where you might have picked up the fungus and how you can go about treating it. There are several options that you have. Some of these options are more viable than others, but all are worth a try as different things work for different people.
Over the counter treatments like gels, creams and ointments are worth a try but they do not often work alone.

They can be used in conjunction with over the counter medications like Lamisil. This is an antifungal medication that must be taken orally, but it has some complications that are worth considering so it cannot be taken for an extended period of time. This is why it is a good idea to use it along with other nail fungus treatment methods.

There are other options to consider as well, some a bit less conventional. Vicks Vapo-Rub, hydrogen peroxide (in high concentrations), and Listerine are just a few of those cures that are worth considering. They may not be the type of thing that your doctor will recommend and it is not guaranteed that they will work but they cannot do any harm and they have been known to have results in many people who are suffering from nail fungus or toenail fungus.

Nail fungus is the pits. Nobody ever wants to deal with it, but you have to see a doctor to be diagnosed and go through a variety of nail fungus cures to find the one that is bound to work for your needs.

Home treatments for fingernail fungus have been around for years. After all, this problem is not new. It has been around for thousands of years. Before modern health care was available, there were only home remedies because medicine was not evolved enough to conquer the problem and there weren’t enough doctors, pharmacies, or drug companies to help conquer the problem. These days, though, home remedies have slowly crept back in to the lexicon of many. The drugs they use nowadays can cause side effects and are they are quite costly. As a result, many with fungal infections have begun to look to the home remedies of the past to solve the problem.

One popular way of treating a fungal infection is by soaking the infected nails in diluted vinegar, powdered bleach, and hydrogen peroxide. The soaking is continued until the fungus is totally cleared up. It could take up to a month to clear the infection. If you want quicker results, you have to thin out the actual nail itself. It is possible to treat an infection with vinegar alone. Apple cider vinegar is best, and you’ll need to soak your nails two to three times per day. Hydrogen peroxide can also be used on its own with the same directions.

Another popular and good finger nail fungus home remedy is tea tree oil. It is extracted from Australia’s tea tree. Proven in study after study to have amazing antifungal properties, it is the perfect remedy. It is applied directly on the nail, and it penetrates quickly and easily. Most herbal shops carry it in both pure form and as a blend of ingredients.

Vick’s Vapo Rub is also a fairly common cure. You need to apply it to your nails 2-3 times daily. It is not known exactly how it works, but most believe because it contains camphor, menthol and eucalyptus oils, it blocks infections. It could take up to six months to see results with this treatment, though.

One unusual form of fungal removal is called saprox. It is an antifungal mud from the Czech Republic that can be placed directly on the nail. The mud’s effectiveness can be increased by using it in conjunction with other remedies.

Another treatment you can try is using your Listerine mouthwash. You just simply soak your nails 2-3 times a day. If you want to try something natural which may also be in your current nail regimen, try Vitamin E cream. It can be applied 1-2 daily until the nail grows out showing new and fresh growth. However, this treatment could take a while to show any positive advancement.
If you feel you would like to try some home remedies, this list will certainly be a start. You need to take control and take care of your nails, and it all begins at home. If you want to avoid unneeded side effects of modern medical treatments, this could be the way to go. As you begin to fight a fungal infection on your own, though, remember that it can take some time to see an improvement in the overall condition.
