Suffering from nail fungus can be painful, irritating, embarrassing, and even debilitating if it gets severe enough. Taking care of the problem as soon as it begins is the key to not letting it get to that point. For those who are health conscious, and for those who want to avoid spending money and time on going to the doctor for nail fungus cures, there are natural cures that you can use to take care of the problem.

Using natural products may take patience and time, but the savings in money and the fact that there are no side effects make it a viable option for many people. If you are suffering from toenail fungus, fingernail fungus, or a combination of both, you can use these natural toenail fungus cures to help kill the fungus and get rid of the embarrassment of having nails that are yellow and chipping.

One thing that has proven to be successful in treating nail fungus is vinegar. Simply soak your toenails or fingernails, whichever has the fungus, in a small amount of vinegar a couple of times a day. You could also use a spray bottle to spray your nails with the vinegar. Let the vinegar sit on your nails for a few minutes, wash your nails, and dry thoroughly. If you do this twice a day, every day until your nails grow out and there is no more sign of the fungus, you will be killing the fungus. The vinegar is a disinfectant, and will kill the fungus on the nail bed.

Another good thing to use for nail fungus is tea tree oil. You can take a q-tip, dip it in the tea tree oil, and apply it to your nails a couple of times a day. Before you apply it, you should wash and dry your nails thoroughly. After applying the tea tree oil, let it sit on your nails for a few minutes, then wash off. Dry your nails.

This might sound a little funny, but one of the most effective things to use as a natural toenail fungus treatment is mouthwash. Listerine, or another antiseptic mouth wash, can be used to treat your nail fungus. Wash your nails and dry thoroughly, then either soak them in it, or spray it on them and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then, wash and dry your nails again.

You could also use a mixture of olive oil and oregano essential oil. Use two drops of oregano oil and one teaspoon olive oil. Apply to nails that have been thoroughly washed and dried. You can use this treatment daily, but not for more than three weeks at a time.

With so many ways to find a natural treatment, there is no reason not to do your best to get rid of it in a way that is healthy, inexpensive, and easy to use. Killing the fungus may mean the beginning of some beautiful, healthy looking nails.

Finding out that you have fungus under your fingernails or toenails can be devastating to say the least. It can prevent a person from being able to enjoy a lot of the things that they once did, and nobody ever wants to have to change the way that they are living because of some disease that they are dealing with. The worst part about it is that nail fungus is not like a regular disease; it does not cause a fever or sickness and there are plenty of products out there. The only trouble is that it can often take time for these cures to work—and this can only take place after a person figures out the cure that is best for their needs.

There are two categories of nail fungus treatment options that a person suffering from nail fungus can choose from. The first category is the traditional prescription or over the counter treatment. Prescription treatments can be obtained from a pharmacy with a written prescription from a doctor and over the counter drugs for this purpose can be purchased there with the help of a pharmacist and do not require any type of written prescription.

Natural treatments may also be purchased from a pharmacy, but they are often a bit more difficult to find. A homeopath or natural health doctor might suggest certain natural cures whereas a medical doctor might be more inclined to prescribe medications or advise certain medications that can be purchased over the counter.

Prescription Drugs

The main prescription drugs for nail fungus are:
Lamisil (Terbinafine)
Fluconazole (Diflucan)
Sporanox (Itraconazole)

These are oral antifungal medications that work to treat the causes of nail fungus from the inside. These are often extremely effective treatments for nail fungus, but they do have their drawbacks. Some of these drugs have been linked to problems with the liver and kidneys, and that is a risk that some people just do not want to take.

Over the counter drugs are often a bit less effective. They are a type of lacquer or ointment that is painted or spread on the nail and cuticles and must seep under the nail in order to do its job. Again, this is one of the more difficult nail fungus treatment options out there as it takes some time and people are often impatient. Nevertheless it is a great deal less risky than the prescription oral antifungal medications that a doctor might prescribe.

Natural Treatments

Tea tree oil is a natural treatment for nail fungus that a homeopath might suggest. The treatments out there that contain tea tree oil treat the fungus directly and often contain vital nutrients that promote healthy growth of the nail in general. These are important, as the nail must re grow in order for the condition to be considered cured.

The nail fungus cure that is best for you remains to be seen. Talk to your medical professional about your options and start treatment as soon as possible.

Finding out that you have nail fungus is horrible for most people. Not only is it unattractive but it is hard to cure. If you have seen a doctor, chances are that you have something worked out as far as nail fungus treatment is concerned. Between the prescription oral antifungal medications that they may have prescribed and the treatments that you can get over the counter, you should be covered. In the meantime, there is a very easy nail fungus cure that you can implement without having to dip your hand, wrap your hand, or pop any pills. Best of all, you can probably find it right in the shelves of your bathroom medicine cabinet.

Clipping your nails is an important part of the process. Nails that are infected with fungus are not attractive as it is, so it is not like there are many cosmetic reasons to keep the nails long and untrimmed. The longer the nail is, the more likely it is to break. Not only do nail breaks cause pain but they impede the healing process because they allow moisture and infection to get underneath the nail and into the nail bed.

Take the time to clip your nails once a week. Clip them straight across to keep them strong and don’t clip too close to the nail bed. Clipping too close to the meat runs the risk of having the quick trimmed, and that can create problems by allowing the nail bed to be susceptible to re infection.

Also, be sure to keep your hands clean. You might think that your hands are clean now, but if you have nail fungus it is important to make sure that you take extra pains to keep your hands clean—especially if you are undergoing some other type of nail fungus treatment.

If your hands are not clean, you may have fungus infection that you can’t see and that heightens your risk of re infecting yourself. That certainly slows down the healing process. If you are going through some type of treatment process keeping your hands clean is of the utmost importance.

Keeping your hands washed also requires that your hands be as dry as possible. Keeping your hands dry is important because the fungus that infects nails thrives in warm, moist environments. Hands that have been washed and not dried are prime examples of the type of lace where nail fungus might be able to thrive. It cannot work if the fungus is in an environment where it is able to survive. It is up to you to take care of that.

It may not seem like it, but keeping your nails clean, dry, and trimmed back at all times is extremely important. You want to create an environment on your hands that nail fungus cannot survive in where nail fungus cures will work best and this is the best way to do so. Remember to sterilize those nail clippers after each use!

Nail fungus can be an extremely debilitating condition. Although it does not directly affect the way that our bodies work, nail fungus can be extremely embarrassing—especially for women. Who wants to show nasty, crumbling, discolored nails to the world? Nails should be neat and clean. They are a representation of how we take care of ourselves and that type of appearance can certainly give the wrong impression.

For this reason, nail fungus treatment is extremely important. There are many different treatment options out there when it comes to nail fungus and some work better than others. None of them are guaranteed to work for any person in particular as everyone’s body works a bit differently and has different things that may works as great cures. This is why it is important to see a doctor.

Nail fungus can be very difficult to treat, to say the least. Re infections are common and there are some creams and ointments that are available for treatment but they have not been known to be very effective. In order to get to the root of the problem, your doctor might suggest a nail fungus cure in the form of an oral medication, one that works as an antifungal.

There are three main methods of oral antifungal medications that your doctor might be inclined to write a prescription for. They are:

Lamisil (Terbinafine)
Fluconazole (Diflucan)
Sporanox (Itraconazole)

These three are antifungal treatments that can be taken orally. It might take quite a while for such a nail fungus treatment to work as the infected nail has to grow off and be replaced by a healthy one.

A doctor might also suggest an antifungal lacquer that works very much like a nail polish. It is painted onto the infected nail and the skin around it twice a day, just to start fresh at the end of the week.

Topical medications are also available in the form of a cream or ointment, but again these antifungal nail fungus cures have not always proven to be the single most effective form of treatment as they have to seep into the nail or surrounding skin in order to get at the fungus. These lotions or creams can usually be provided to people over the counter and although they might not provide a cure alone they are great for using in conjunction with the oral antifungal medications that doctors are prone to prescribe.

Only your doctor can make an accurate diagnosis of nail fungus, and only he or she can prescribe an oral antifungal medication. Everything else must be purchased over the counter. Whether or not a particular treatment will work for you remains to be seen. Take the time to try every treatment that is offered to you by your physician and be sure that you are doing everything you can to follow his instructions to the letter. Your doctor may have a lot of suggestions but only you know what works for you.

Most of us have woken up one day, looked down at our fingernail and wondered what we did to make the nail black and blue, or even white, and some people run right out, when this occurs, and purchase a toe nail fungus treatment. Nails are something that the average person doesn’t quite understand; they cut them when they need to be cut, paint them or decorate them when they’re in the mood, curse when they break one, but otherwise they are ignored, until, that is, something goes wrong. The minute that your nail turns a color, you start to try to remember if you whacked the nail or did something to cause the colored mark. If you can’t figure out what you did, you may believe that you have some sort of toenail fungus requiring treatment. The truth is that there are many conditions that can cause your nails to go black, and the majority of them don’t require any treatment at all.

Subungual Hematoma

The most common cause of a toenail that goes black is a subungual hematoma. A subungual hematoma occurs due to direct trauma to the nail itself. For instance, if you’re trying to make dinner and accidentally drop a can on the end of the nail, you may wind up with a subungual hematoma. Most people will remember when they did something big, such as drop a can or hammer on their toes, and won’t wonder if they need toe nail fungus treatment or not. There are, however, instances in which a subungual hematoma can occur with you not even being aware that anything happened.

Microtrauma

If your toenail turns black and you can’t remember having any sort of trauma occurring on it, don’t immediately go out and purchase toenail fungus treatments, as you may not need them. A black toenail can occur due to something known as microtrauma. This trauma happens over time and is easily ignored. If you are someone who enjoys walking, or running, and your nail hits onto the front of your shoe, you may be the victim of microtrauma. As the toenail hits the shoe over and over, eventually it causes blood vessels to break under the nails. Before you know it, the blood will begin to pool as more and more vessels break, and the nail will be darkened.

Seeking A Physician’s Advice

There are instances when a subungual hematoma can be dangerous, and the nail may fall off leaving you at risk for further infection. Instead of purchasing treatment, or asking your friend and family which they were advised to use by a physician, you may want to seek out your own, as toenail fungus doesn’t blacken the nail but rather makes it yellowish or brownish in appearance. As a good rule of thumb, the minute you notice something wrong with your toenails, or your fingernails, you should speak with your physician, as a change in the nails could indicate that something else is going on in your body.

Nail fungus is no good. No matter who you are, how old you are, what your health is like or what you do for fun having yellowed, crumbling nails that hurt is never any fun. Nail fungus cures are few and far between it can seem, at least those that work and who wants to ever deal with treatments that they can’t be sure will work properly? Over the counter treatments don’t always do the trick and the prescription treatments that your doctor might recommend have a tendency to complicate things and cause other health problems, such as complications with the liver and the kidneys.

For this reason, finding a nail fungus cure that you can count on is extremely important. This condition can take a long time to cure so finding a nail fungus cures that is helpful is hard to find. What would you say if you were told that the best nail fungus treatment options might be the most unexpected, and that you could find some in the aisles of your local pharmacy? This is the truth. Read on for more information on what you might be able to do to help cure your nail fungus without having to harm your most vital organs.

Pick Up a Bottle of Mouthwash

You read right. Mouthwash is known for its antiseptic qualities, but few people have probably ever thought to try Listerine for a nail fungus infection. This is one of the most unexpected treatments for nail fungus of them all, but it does work. Buy a big bottle or two, fill up a small tub with the stuff and dip your foot in it. Leave it there for a few minutes and then dab the toe clean with a towel. Put on some clean socks and repeat every day for a few weeks. You should be able to see a change in the way that your nail is growing soon.

Vicks Can Do the Trick

Chances are that you have used Vicks Vapo-Rub to help clear up a stuffy chest or nose at some point or another. It is one of the more effective cold treatments out there and it seems to be one of the more effective nail fungus treatment options as well.

The best part about this is how easy it is to use. Vicks is a tacky substance. Take your finger and dip it into the small pot and spread it across your toe. Be sure to cover the top of your toe nail and your cuticle. Wrap the toe with a band aid or a bandage of some type and leave it like that for an hour or so.

Then, wash the foot and dry it properly. Put on some clean socks and do this every day of the week for a month or so. You should be able to see the half moon of healthy nail growing in before too long.

Rubbing Alcohol May Be The Key

Available at almost any pharmacy, rubbing alcohol may put an end to your fungal worries. Soak the affected nail area for about twenty minutes twice per day in pure rubbing alcohol. Dry your nail with a paper towel after removing it from the alcohol.

Finding the right nail fungus treatment can be as easy as a trip to the pharmacy.
