Women love to be pampered. As part of that process we sometimes like to get our nails professionally done. There is nothing better than the feeling of getting pampered for a couple of hours. However, it is not just women who love their manicures. Men are starting to take better care of their nails too. In large cities there are nail salons virtually on every corner. These establishments must run a profitable business however they could be overlooking a major risk: finger nail fungus! Just like in any business, the nail business caters to the public and because of this, there could be hidden dangers lurking in your local nail salon in the form of possible infections that you may not be aware of and need to find out about.
Fortunately, there are ways to protect yourself and things to look for when you get your nails done. When you stop to make an appointment, take a look around the salon and make sure it’s clean. You have to make sure that all the tools the manicurist is using are sterilized. Everything from towels to brushes to cutting tools needs to be sterilized. If they are not sterilized, then the tiny organisms on them can be transmitted from utensil to utensil and person to person and cause fungus. Make sure they are practicing the proper hygiene like washing their hands frequently. Find out how they are handling the risk of infection.
A clean salon and concerned manicurist, though, aren’t the only factors involved. If a client has a cracked acrylic nail, then fungus could be growing under the fake nail and on top of the natural nail. While many women love to get false nails put on, they should realize there are dangers. Acrylic nails use various compounds that cement the nail like Methyl Methacrylate. Acetone is used to remove the nails. These chemicals affect the natural nail and skin. If an acrylic nail is put on wrong, organisms can get in cracks and openings and grow and thrive there beginning the fingernail fungus cycle.
Whatever nail salon you visit, you should make sure they are aware of finger nail fungus and take the matter seriously. If the salon doesn’t take the matter seriously, find another nail salon. You are getting your nails done to feel better about yourself and improve your appearance. Not only that but you are paying good money for a safe service. In some cases, getting your nails done is not an inexpensive measure. The last thing you need is to develop a nail fungus from unclean tools and equipment. Getting pampered at a nail salon should be a pleasurable experience and not one that can cause you pain.
