While there are some people who have no problem going to a doctors office for the most minor of things, many people either do not want to both their physician, or do not want to have to deal with the expense, of visiting their doctor for something that they see as minor. For instance, someone who has fingernail fungus likely would try a fungus treatment that they could do at home, rather than one that they would need to get prescribed. There are a number of at home treatments that you can choose from, but depending on how bad your situation is they may, or may not, work.
Treatments
One classic remedy that some people claim works well is the cayenne pepper mixture. In order to do this mixture, you simply mix cayenne pepper with water until it becomes a paste. Before you go to bed, you put the paste on your fingers and bandage them up so that the paste can rest on the nail itself. Then, in the morning, you rinse the paste off, only to repeat the procedure the next night.
Another fingernail fungus treatment that many people swear by is the Vicks treatment. To do this you simply place Vicks, or a similar product, on your fingernails, again at night, and bandage them up, repeating until the nails get clear again. Both the Vicks treatment and the cayenne pepper treatment can take months to work and are not, of course, guaranteed by any means.
Some claim that the best thing to do at home is to soak your fingernails in apple cider vinegar. In order to do this remedy, you need to soak your fingers in the apple cider vinegar at least four times a day for twenty to thirty minutes each day. This may seem like a large chunk of time, and may be difficult to do if you work outside of the home, but many swear by the remedy. You can do the same with other ingredients such as lemongrass oil and tea tree oil.
All of the treatment ideas say what most over the counter remedies say, which is to keep your fingers dry and clean. If you wear nail polish, you should avoid wearing the polish until you are sure that the nails are clear of fungus. If you do a fingernail fungus treatment that requires that you soak your fingers, make sure that you dry the fingers off as well as you possibly can after the treatment. You may even want to use a blow dryer, set on low, to make sure that your fingers get as dry as they can possibly get. If your at home treatments don’t work, be sure to speak with a physician about getting a treatment that will work, so that the condition won’t spread.
