If you’ve got toenail fungus, or have had to deal with it in the past, you know that it can be extremely difficult to get rid of. Some people spend months and hundreds of dollars trying to get rid of toenail fungus, which is why many choose to go the over the counter route or at home remedy route instead, hoping to save themselves some money. But do at home treatments or over the counter toenail fungus treatment products work as well as physician ordered treatments?
At Home Remedies
There are dozens of different at home treatments that you can choose from, and while some sound as though they may work over time, others are simply time wasters. One treatment that many people are trying is the vinegar treatment. Before you do this treatment, however, you need to know which vinegar to use, as there are a number of different types of vinegars to purchase. Most who have tried the vinegar cure recommend using apple cider vinegar.
Doing the treatment is simply and you have two options. The first is to mix your feet in a mixture of half vinegar, half water for at least thirty minutes three to four times a day. This is supposed to help bring the nails back to their normal state. Others recommend that you put vinegar directly onto the nail that is infected twice a day, but in order to make sure that it is effective, you are required to bandage up the nail. There are a number of at home remedies such as this, including ones that require that you bandage your nail for weeks and months on end.
Over The Counter
Many claim that over the counter options work better than at home remedies. Fortunately there are dozens of different products to choose from on the market, unfortunately it’s hard to know which treatment products work and which ones don’t. The best way to figure out which product works, before you spend your money, is to look around online at the feedback from other customers. If a number of people say that the product works, you most likely will be purchasing something that is a good toenail fungus treatment.
Physician Remedies
There are a number of pharmaceutical options as well, and only a physician can give you a script so that you can purchase the treatment that you need. On the plus side, your physician will make sure that your toenail fungus doesn’t get so bad that it causes infection elsewhere in your body, but toe nail fungus treatment options from your physician may cost quite a bit more than either over the counter medications or at home remedies.
No matter which option you choose, it is best that you seek treatment for your condition as soon as possible, so that you don’t have to worry about the fungus causing even more harm to your body than it already has.
